Westminster Palace, Westminster Abbey and Saint Margaret's Church

The icon and most recognizable building of London--the Big Ben or Westminister Palace, is also the house of the British Parliament.
The Big Ben (which is the name of the clock) is a much more modern addition to the building when compared to the original structure. It was much smaller when built in the early 11th century. The original structure was destroy by a fire in the 1500s.

The site also includes Westminister Abby, which is a church adjacent to the Palace. In fact, the Palace takes its name from the Church, not the other way around. The other building that is part of the site is Saint Margaret's Church, which is also right next to the Palace.
The Church of Westminister Abby has been the place of coronation of Monarchs in Great Britain since the 1100s. It has also been the location of Royal Weddings, including the recent one of Prince William to Cate Middleton.

The building has special protections and can be seen from the London Eye, which I strongly recommend.
